SEREMBAN: Muhammad Amirul Iman Abdur Rashid, 8, lost his mother two months ago when she died of intestinal cancer in July.

Life dealt him another cruel blow when he had to suffer physical abuse by his brother-in-law who took him under his care after the death of his mother.

Seremban social welfare department officer Bahiyah Muhammad said Muhammad Amirul had been living with the man who was married to his 20-year-old sister.

"The victim's parents had divorced several years ago so he had to stay with his sister after his mother died. The father couldn't be located," she said.

When staying with his sister and brother-in-law he was subjected to abuse before he was rescued by the police on Sept 25.

"Bruises and wounds were found on several parts of his body, which prompted the police to send him to Tuanku Jaafar Hospital for check up before the boy was referred to the social welfare department," she said.

Bahiyah said the department had obtained a court order as the boy could not be allowed to stay with his sister who was also believed to be abused by her husband.

"The police are now locating the suspect," she said, adding that the department was trying to locate family members of the victim and urge the public with information on the matter to contact the department or its officer Norsahrisalina Nordin at 06-6015819.
