KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today paid tribute to the late Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay, describing the YTL Corporation Bhd founder as an iconic entrepreneur.
He said Yeoh has left behind a lasting legacy to his organisation, community and the nation.
Najib, who visited the Yeoh residence with his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor to pay their last respects, expressed his condolences to the family.
“Rosmah and I would like to express our deepest condolences to the family...the late Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay was an iconic entrepreneur.
“He has left a lasting legacy to his organisation, community and nation. May his soul rest in peace," Najib wrote in the condolence book.
Najib and Rosmah arrived about 5.40pm and spent about 30 minutes at the residence.
Earlier today, Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail paid his last respects to Yeoh. Also present were community leaders and former ministers.
Relatives and acquaintances began streaming in to the family residence since morning.
Yeoh, died on Wednesday at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife Puan Sri Tan Kai Yong and seven children.
The last wake service will be held tomorrow night. The funeral will be held on Sunday.
The cortege will leave the residence at noon.
YTL Corporation Bhd is among the 30 largest companies listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd.
It is also among the component companies of FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, the main benchmark index of the bourse.
