KUALA LUMPUR: Storms are expected from now until early tonight in Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, as well as Sabah and Sarawak, according to a Malaysian Meteorological Department alert.
The alert said lightning, heavy rain and strong winds were expected in the districts of Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar in north Perak while in the south these conditions were expected in the districts Kluang, Mersing, Kota Tinggi, Johor Baru and Kulai in Johor.
In Pahang bad weather was expected in Rompin and Pekan while in Kelantan these conditions were forecasted for Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Bachok, Pasir Puteh, Machang, Tanah Merah, Jeli, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang..
In Terengganu, Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Hulu Terengganu and Dungun were listed as districts that were affected.
In Sarawak the divisions Sibu, Sarikei and Betong alongside the districts of Limbang, Marudi,Tatau and Sri Aman were listed as affected. Tawau division is the only place in Sabah that was affected.
The alert was issued at 3.45pm today on their website and social networking sites.
The MET department has come under fire for its delayed alert on Penang’s storms that was issued online on 9.30pm on Saturday when the rains and floods started hours earlier.
