PERMATANG PAUH: The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has instructed the Federal village development and security committee (JKKKP) to identify all infrastructures and premises damaged in the Nov 4 floods so that repair works can be carried out soon.

This will include kindergartens, halls and suraus, as well as roads.

So far, 41 kindergartens under the ministry have been identified.

Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the JKKKP should then submit the list of infrastructures and premises damaged to the Umno office in each division.

"I want this to be done as soon as possible.

"We will then forward the list to the National Security Council so repair works can be carried out accordingly," he told newsmen after presenting aid to flood victims in Tadika Permatang Rawa on Tuesday afternoon.

A 17-hour storm on Nov 4 paralysed the state, triggering massive floods and landslides.

Thousand were displaced and seven casualties reported.

Sabri said damages to the 41 kindergartens were estimated at RM165,000.

"We brought 1,645 volunteers with us today for a gotong royong in 33 villages state-wide. Our focus is to repair premises, belonging to the ministry, which were damaged in the floods.

"For example, we carry out painting works at the kindergartens, repaired faulty furniture and electrical items as well as re-wiring.

"Since the children have returned to the kindergartens, we want to ensure that their learning process is not hampered by the problems faced. As such, we have decided to come down to the ground ourselves and do whatever is necessary," he added.
