MELAKA: Firemen were called in to cut free a 17-year-old boy whose leg was pierced by an iron rod in an accident along Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh (SPA) near a National Service camp here.
The incident was said to have happened at about 3am on Saturday when the boy, on his motorcycle, was travelling back home in Taman Tasik Utama.
"The victim was said to have hit an iron rod on the road.
"He fell off the bike and the iron rod pierced his left ankle," said Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Department chief Senior Fire Officer Mohamad Hamdan Sudin.
Hamdan said a team of seven firemen from the Ayer Keroh were rushed to the Pantai Hospital upon receiving a distress call at about 3.25am.
"When we arrived, we were forced to cut the metal rod with a power saw to shorten the rod before he could be treated further,” he said when contacted here.
