JELEBU: Jelebu Member of Parliament Datuk Zainudin Ismail died this evening after a long battle with illness.
He was 58.
He died at his home in Villa Puteri, Kuala Lumpur around 7.30pm today.
Zainudin had previously been diagnosed with a brain tumour.
News of his passing was confirmed by Zainudin's second son, Muhammad Arif, 28.
Pertang state assemblyman Datuk Jalaluddin Alias, who also confirmed the news, said Zainudin's passing was met with sorrow by many.
"The entire state Umno leadership and the state government are saddened by his passing. He had contributed immensely to the development of the party and Negri Sembilan," said Jalaluddin, who was on his way to the late Zainudin's house when contacted.
It is learnt that Zainudin's remains will be brought back to Taman Angsana Jelebu. The burial will be held at Kampung Petaseh tomorrow morning.
In May last year, Zainudin had undergone surgery at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital to remove a tumour in his brain after he fell unconscious at his house in Kuala Klawang.
