ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor will soon become the focal point for extreme sports enthusiasts with the opening of X-Treme Park in Sunway Iskandar here by the end of 2018.
The X-Treme Park here, which will be the fifth to be opened, is located on a 12.9 hectare land within the Sunway Iskandar development and will cost about RM20 million.
"This will be the largest extreme and adventure park in Malaysia. I believe the park will attract a lot of visitors, especially extreme sports enthusiasts, not only from Johor but also from all over the country.
"With the opening of the park, Johor will become a main destination for extreme sports fans, not only from Malaysia but also from around the region," said state Tourism and Domestic Trade and Consumerism Executive Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong.
He said the opening of the park is in line with the state government's efforts to promote extreme sports in Johor.
Tee was speaking to the media after attending the ground breaking ceremony for the park. Also present were Iskandar Puteri City Council mayor Adib Azhari Daud and Sunway Iskandar chief executive officer Gerard Soosay.
Once completed, the park, which will be developed in two phases, will offer activities such as motorcross, mountain biking, go-carting, all terrain vehicles (ATVs), buggy car and rock climbing.
Other activities that will be available at the park includes, archery, paintball, kayaking and canoeing as well as facilities for conventional sports like badminton and futsal.
