JOHOR BAHRU: A suspected robber was killed in a struggle with the owner of a house he broke into at Jalan Jenawi 3, Taman Puteri Wangsa, Ulu Tiram, near here on Wednesday.
The house owner, aged 32, was also injured in the 2.45pm incident and is currently being treated at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
The suspect is believed to have broken into the house through a window and then attempted to break down the door of the master bedroom. He then confronted and threatened the home owner.
“The home owner… was threatened with a screw-driver and ordered to surrender all his valuables, before he was forced by the suspect to unlock the kitchen door.
“It was then that the victim managed to grab a chopping knife and asked the suspect to return the items he had taken, but the suspect refused and a fight broke out between the two of them,” Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Shahurinain Jais said in a statement.
Initial checks revealed that the suspect has a criminal record of 14 offences, including for drug-related cases.
Police found a wallet, RM730 in cash, a gold ring and a handphone in the suspect’s trouser pocket, Shahurinain said, adding that the body was sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for a post mortem. -- BERNAMA
