The body of the 15-year-old Rohingya tahfiz student, Mohd Rahim Salleh who went missing on Monday after he was swept away by strong current near Kampung Baung, has been recovered early today.

HULU TERENGGANU: The body of the 15-year-old Rohingya tahfiz student, who went missing on Monday after he was swept away by strong current near Kampung Baung, has been recovered early today.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud said Mohd Rahim Salleh's body was spotted by rescuers at 1.41am, floating about 9km away from where he was last spotted.

The victim's remains has been handed over to the police for post mortem.

In the 6pm incident, Mohd Rahim, from Madrasah Hidayah Rohingya Datuk Abd Rahman in Kuala Berang, a friend, Sayid Amin Zainal Amin, 14, had jumped into the river to help Mohd Yunus Idris, 13, who got into difficulties, while swimming.

Mohd Adli said other friends, Mohd Jubair Mohd Yunus, 12 and Mohd Yasir Nuralam, 14, also jumped into the river, to help in the rescue, but was swept away by the current.

Fortunately, Mohd Jubair, Yunus and Sayid, were saved by an angler, while Yasir managed to swim to safety.
