KUALA NERUS: University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) is encouraging its students to engage in entrepreneurship to secure a brighter future.

To that end, the university’s Maritime and Business Management Centre organised a marketing seminar on Dec 10, which is in line with the Malaysian Education Blueprint (Higher Education) 2015-2025.

The seminar aimed at realising the blueprint’s aspiration to produce balanced students, besides encouraging them to take part in business activities.

The programme’s director, Dr Marhana Mohamed Anuar, said UMT was keen on creating more entrepreneurial programmes and Islamic subjects to benefit its students.

“ This is the second programme after the first seminar in 2016. We received positive feedback from the students and they were able to put forward impressive and creative ideas,” she told the New Straits Times today.

Marhana added that UMT would hold the seminar every year beginning 2018.

“During the seminar, students were exposed to marketing strategies and how to come up with a quality marketing plan. We hope to draw more participants this year.”

She said a total of 313 signed up for the seminar last year, which was sponsored by private companies Nemoland Center Enterprise and SOR Jaya Sdn Bhd.

Among the speakers invited to the event were Mohd Shairulnizam Zuall Coble, who is the main consultant of Shairul Cobley Solutions, and University Malaysia Kelantan’s Entrepreneur and Business Dean Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Rafi Yaacob.
