KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat commenced its sitting today by expressing the condolences of the house to the families of two late MPs.
Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia initiated the move to record the condolences to the families of Jelebu MP Datuk Zainudin Ismail, who died in December last year, and Paya Besar MP Datuk Seri Abdul Manan Ismail, who passed away last month.
“The passing of the two MPs is a huge loss to the nation. I, representing this august house and parliament, record our condolences to their families,” he said.
Pandikar Amin then invited Muslim MPs to express the al-Fatihah and the non-Muslim MPs to observe a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for the late MPs.
Zainudin, 57, died at his home at the Villa Puteri Condominium here at 7.30pm on Dec 6. He had undergone surgery at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on May 13 last year to remove a brain tumour.
Abdul Manan, 70, died at 6.45pm on Feb 12 after a fall in the bathroom of his house in Taman Melawati.-- BERNAMA
