KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) saw a jump in participation from media practitioners with 347 submissions for Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards 2017.

MPI in a statement today, said there was an increase of 56 participations compared to last year, despite charging participation fee for a second year.

This year, the presentation ceremony for the 2017 awards will be held in July 2018.

Out of all the categories, the Best Column Writing category recorded the highest increase with 46 entries, followed by Best Photo Journalism (43), Best Photo (43), Best Video Documentaries (30), Best Photo Essay (27) and Best News Video (25).

The winners will take home RM10,000, trophy and certificate of appreciation, while consolation prize winners will receive RM1,000 and certificate of appreciation.

The best article, which wins the Kajai Award will get a cash award of RM30,000, a certificate, a trophy and other prizes,” MPI said.
