KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s science adviser and joint chairman of MIGHT, Prof Tan Sri Zakri Abdul Hamid has been appointed as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) to the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
He is among 10 of the world’s leading experts appointed to the bank’s board.
This recognition for Zakri is the latest in a series of prestigious accolades that he had received.
The others include being a member of former United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon’s Scientific Advisory Board, founding chair of the 120-member Intergovernmental Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and the 2017 ASEAN Biodiversity Hero.
Zakri said he felt very honoured to be given the IDB recognition but stressed that this was really a testament to the ability of Malaysia’s citizens to contribute to global development.
“This board is also a tribute to PM Najib as it is fashioned after Malaysia’s Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC) which he launched seven years ago,” he added.
The Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee under the purview of the PM’s Department. - Bernama
