PUTRAJAYA: The government has agreed to provide a special RM400 special aid for civil servants with Grade 41 and below, and RM200 for retirees.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad also said the new cost of living aid which will replace the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) will be paid out on June 6 at the existing rate.
He said the price of RN95 petrol will be maintained while RON97 will be floated based on market price.
“A full briefing will be done by the Finance Ministry,” he told a press conference after chairing the Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday.
TDr Mahathir added that tolled roads nationwide will have a discount of 50 per cent, two days before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Last year, during the 2018 Budget tabling, the Barisan Nasional government had announced a special aid payment of RM500 for 1.6 million civil servants to help them prepare for Aidilfitri.
A RM250 payment was then announced for the nation’s 743,000 pensioners as an appreciation for their services. -- Reporting by Manirajan Ramasamy, Irwan Shafrizan Ismail and Mohd Nasarudin Parzi
