KEMAMAN: A tanker operated by Kemaman Bitumen Company, which was carrying 40,000 litres of crude oil, burst into flames in the Teluk Kalong industrial area, here, at 6.15pm today.
Thick, black smoke could be spotted for several kilometres around the area.
It is learnt that the oil tanker can hold up to 300,000 litres of crude oil.
Fire and Rescue Department vehicles and personnel from the Chukai and Kertih stations were rushed to the scene to contain the blaze.
They were assisted by the Kemaman Mutual Aid volunteer brigade, which is made up of workers from nearby factories. Firemen were still battling the blaze at 8pm.
