SHAH ALAM: The act of Kapar MP Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid spewing what was described as slanderous statements towards PKR’s top leaders Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Zuraida Kamaruddin as well as Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was simply too much and irresponsible.
Zuraida’s political secretary Nor Hizwan Ahmad said Abdullah’s action warranted an apology to all those he had attacked.
"It is clear that what Abdullah had said is a betrayal to the spirit of Reformasi and the Malaysia Baru (new Malaysia) aspirations. The personal attacks hurled at Zuraida and Azmin by Abdullah and his wife, Datin Faizah Ariffin, shames PH and PKR which just started administrating the country.
“It is more embarrassing when Abdullah had accused Dr Mahathir and Tun Daim Zainuddin for conspiring to stop Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the Prime Minister,” said Nor Hizwan in a statement today.
Nor Hizwan added that it was obvious Abdullah was confused when it came to legal aspects when the latter had asked those he had allegedly slandered to prove that the accusations were untrue.
“In Malaysia, the burden of proof is on those who are accusing, not on the accused. If this is the way Abdullah thinks, therefore his ability to be a leader, what more a member of parliament, can be questioned.
“I urge Abdullah to apologise to all his victims of slander,” said Nor Hizwan.
Abdullah has not responded to NSTP’s request for comments.
Several days ago, Abdullah claimed that Dr Mahathir and Daim were behind a conspiracy to bar Anwar from becoming prime minister.
It was also reported that Abdullah had pointed fingers at Zuraida for ordering her supporters to intimidate his wife.
Meanwhile, several PKR party members, who declined to be named, felt that Abdullah’s actions were uncalled for.
“Abdullah is being unprofessional. If he continues to rain attacks on our leaders, it will split the party. It is not just PKR that is affected in this case.
“His statements have also angered our counterparts in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) as he had hurled baseless accusations against Dr Mahathir. Abdullah should say sorry and air his dissatisfaction internally.”
Another PKR member said it was possible that Abdullah had acted that way because of the upcoming party polls.
“As we all know, the party election is coming. That is probably why Abdullah is doing this. But he doesn’t have to talk bad about others, to the extent of using Dr Mahathir’s name, just to garner votes. He does not need to bring other people down as they are his very own comrades.
"I say he should discharge his duties for the sake of the people and not chase positions,” said the member.
