KOTA BELUD: A 46-year-old woman and her teenage daughter, who were busy preparing dinner, got the shock of their lives when a cobra appeared in their kitchen in Kampung Timbang, here, at 7pm yesterday.

Loime Tami, 46, said her 15-year-old daughter noticed the 2m long black snake when she turned around to fetch food from the table.

“My daughter suddenly screamed. The snake was just few steps away from us. It was scary when it started to lift its head,” she told the New Straits Times.

Loime said she switched off the cooking gas and alerted the Civil Defence Department (APM).

APM unit officer Paulina Francis said a team was sent to the house immediately.

“The poisonous snake, weighing a kilogramme, was in the kitchen area. The team managed to capture it.

“The squad then inspected the house and surroundings to ensure the area was safe,” she said, adding that the operation ended at 9.28pm.
