KUALA LUMPUR: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang would have had a field day if it was Barisan Nasional (BN) instead of Pakatan Harapan (PH) that asked Malaysians to “dream on” with regard to the scrapping of tolls.
Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak suggested this, saying Lim would have made at least ten statements if the shoe was on the other foot.
“If it was a BN minister, chances are Lim would have made at least ten statements to whack BN and involve me and kleptocracy numerous times,” he said in a Facebook post while referring to the statement made by Works Minister Baru Bian in Parliament today.
Najib said that it was improper for the Works Minister to state that the people can dream on because PH will not abolish tolls or build highways without charge.
He claimed that PH has already deceived voters because they failed in fulfilling their manifesto but “they don’t have to undermine their (voters’) intelligence”.
“When I was Prime Minister, I successfully abolished a number of toll charges, assisted Sarawak in abolishing all tolls in 2016, prevented any rise in toll charges on PLUS Highways while building new toll- free highways like the Central Spine Road (CSR) and the Pan Borneo Highway.
“Why can’t PH do the same? If they can’t fulfill their pledges within the manifesto, at least they can reduce toll rates,” added Najib.
Najib’s post comes on the heels of PH conceding that it may not fulfil many pledges within its manifesto, including the much anticipated abolishment of tolls.
