JOHOR BAHRU: A 15-year-old teenager went on a rampage with a lorry and crashed into not one, but two police cars during a hot pursuit in Tebrau Industrial Area 2 here this evening.
Johor Baru (South) police chief Asst Commissioner Shahurinain Jais said the incident occurred at 4pm.
Investigation revealed that a police team was patrolling and came across the suspicious 10-tonne lorry at Jalan Harmonium 23, Taman Desa Tebrau. The lorry driver ignored the police’s order to stop and sped off.
The pursuit was joined by four vehicles from Johor Baru (South) police headquarters and 12 vehicles from Seri Alam police headquarters.
“The teams gave chase and set up a blockade at Jalan Angkasa Mas 3, Tebrau Industrial Zone 2 but the driver still refused to stop.
“During the pursuit on Pasir Gudang highway towards the Plentong exit, the lorry crashed into a patrol car but continued on.
“When it reached a dead end at Jalan Angkasa Mas, the lorry crashed into another patrol car when it tried to reverse,” he said, adding that police even fired three warning shots.
Shahurinain said the lorry driver then tried to run away on foot but was tackled by a few police officers.
“We found out that he’s only 15 years old, has dropped out of school and is working with his uncle as lorry driver assistant. He also said he was just test driving the lorry.
“The vehicle is registered under Soong Ki Trading Sdn Bhd, addressed at No 2-02 Jalan Ros Merah 2/17, Taman Johor Jaya but there’s no report on missing vehicle,” he said.
The teenager has been detained to facilitate investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 25 (1) (n) of the National Registration Regulations.
