KUALA LUMPUR: The federal government has chalked up a total of RM1,065 billion in debts and liabilities as at June this year, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng today.

Lim, who is tabling the 2019 Budget in Parliament, said the amount is RM350 billion higher than what was announced by the previous Barisan Nasional government.

"These debts include RM725.2 billion in direct debts, RM155.8 billion in unforeseen commitments and RM184.9 billion in other liabilities," he said.

Lim also said the previous administration had secretly paid a total of RM7 billion in debts owed by 1Malaysia Development Bhd as at April 30.

"The government found that the country may have to pay another RM43.9 billion to settle the 1MDB debts," he added.
