KUALA LUMPUR: A university student was injured after he was set upon by at least two people for driving against traffic at Jalan Pinang here.

Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah said the 22-year-old student was driving under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred at 4.30am on Thursday.

He said the youth, who was driving a BMW, was on his way home after spending the evening at a night club.

"The man drove against traffic and crashed into other vehicles, sparking an altercation between him and a group of people.

"A fight broke out and the victim was punched by two men," he told the NST when contacted here today.

Shaharuddin said the victim's car was also damaged by other members of the public.

"Investigations showed that the victim was drunk at the time of the incident."

The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code.
