SANDAKAN: Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) has assigned five monitoring teams to assess the preparedness of security personnel at their respective posts within the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone (Esszone) throughout Hari Raya festivities.
Esscom commander Datuk Hazani Ghazali said the teams comprising the police, Armed Forces, and Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency have started their observation duties since early Ramadan.
He said the teams, among others, would visit all the assigned locations within Esszone, including control posts on islands and mainland, as well as the intercept teams.
“The preparedness of our security forces is at in high-level despite our personnel having to work and being away from their family throughout the Hari Raya celebration,” he said when contacted, today.
Hazani said Esscom would continue to intensify security at border areas to prevent cross-border crimes by focusing on patrols near ‘laluan tikus’ (illegal routes) and inspect all types of sea transport.
He said focus would also be given on the intelligence aspect of combating cross-border crime elements.
"In addition to increasing the number of assets and manpower, we need to boost intelligence effort to facilitate our planning and operations," he said.
Esszone covers 10 districts namely Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Beluran, Kinabatangan, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Tawau and Semporna.
