Kota Kinabalu: Firemen saved a pet dog that had impaled itself on an iron fence at Taman Ria, Jalan Lintas, here, today.

In the 8.55am incident, the female Dachshund was believed to have got out of her owner’s house through the one-metre high metal fence.

However, the tip of the fence punctured her stomach.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre senior supervisor Agustavia Joe Guasi said the department had received a call from the owner at 8.57am and dispatched a nine-member team to the scene.

“The firefighters had to use iron cutters to cut off three iron bars to free the dog.

“The rescue operation took five minutes and ended at 9.27am,” he said, adding that the dog’s owner had immediately sent the dog to a nearby vet for treatment.

“The dog is undergoing surgery and her condition is not known yet,” he added.
