KUALA LUMPUR: A police corporal, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, fired several shots in the air during an altercation outside a nightclub at Jalan Tun Razak here, early on Sunday.

The 33-year-old policeman had been attempting to break up a fight between his girlfriend and a group of other club-goers in the 5.25am incident, Bernama reported.

Despite the commotion, no one was injured in the incident.

It is learnt that security guards at the entertainment centre immediately apprehended the cop, before handing him over to the authorities.

According to KL Criminal Investigation Department head Senior Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd Isa, the policeman has been remanded for two days to facilitate an investigation.
