KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic on the nation’s major thoroughfares was reported to be heavy as Malaysians head back to the Klang Valley after the Aidiladha holiday over the weekend.

A Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) spokesman said that traffic had begun to build up on the North-South Expressway (NSE), with northbound traffic – to Pedas Linggi from Simpang Ampat – beginning to grow heavy since 10.30am.

“However, the traffic flow is smooth at the moment.

“Traffic is also slowly building up from the Tapah to Bidor stretch of the NSE,” he added.

On the east coast, traffic is building up at the Bentong toll plaza, with heavier traffic anticipated in the evening, he told the New Straits Times.

He also anticipates congestion at the KL-Karak highway, near Genting Sempah.

“We expect the traffic volume at the major highways to gradually increase after lunch time,” he added.
