KUALA LUMPUR: A Malindo Air flight en route from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur suffered a sudden loss of pressurisation and was forced to return to the Soekarno Hatta International Airport on Monday.

About half an hour into its journey, Flight OD315, which departed Jakarta at 2.42pm (Central Indonesian time), encountered the technical emergency which caused oxygen masks to deploy from overhead compartments.

But the Boeing 737-900ER, with 85 passengers and six crew members, landed safely in Jakarta at 3.17pm. No one was injured in the incident, Bernama reported.

“Our pilots immediately carried out the emergency checklist as per standard operating procedures and alerted air traffic control towers before landing in Jakarta,” Malindo Air said in a statement today.

Passengers were cared for by ground staff after disembarking and were provided with accommodation; while most were booked on the next available flights to Kuala Lumpur, the airline added.
