ALOR SETAR: Kedah will start cloud seeding soon as the drought and dry conditions in the state cause water levels at dams to drop to a dangerously low level.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said the situation was a cause for concern as it puts the people, especially rice farmers, at risk.
“We have been on standby to start cloud seeding. Currently the skies are blue and there are not enough clouds to start seeding. You need the right cloud conditions for the process,” he told reporters at Wisma Darulaman here today.
Mukhriz said the cloud seeding operation would be done by Lembaga Kemajuan Pertanian Muda (MADA).
According to him, Sultan Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah had requested all mosques in the state to conduct special prayers for rain this Friday.
Mukhriz also urged everyone to not waste water and stay hydrated during the hot season.
