DUNGUN: A happy outing for six Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Polytechnic (PSMZA) students at Pantai Teluk Bidara here ended in tragedy today when four of them fell into the water and are believed to have drowned.

In the incident at about 6.30pm, Muhamad Luqman Hakim Al Rashid Mohamed Sabarudin; Muhammad Zul Fahmi Zuki; Muhammad Ikhwan Ahmad Azhan; and Mohamad Amir Izzudin Zulkiflee, all aged 21, are said to have been lounging at a rocky area of the beach when they slipped and fell into the water and were swept away by strong waves.

Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department Zone 2 head, Azman Alias, said 14 firemen

from the Dungun, Chukai and Kuala Berang stations rushed to the location after receiving an emergency call at 6.33pm.

“Our personnel, with the aid of an amphibian boat, are conducting a search and rescue operation for the victims.

“The team is now combing the coastal area,” he said when contacted. – Bernama
