PETALING JAYA: PKR vice president Zuraida Kamaruddin has been given 14 days to respond to a show-cause letter issued to her on claims of disciplinary misconduct.

Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the letter, issued by PKR's Disciplinary Board was delivered to Zuraida yesterday.

He said this means the Housing and Local Government minister has 14 days from yesterday to provide an explanation, afterwhich the board will decide on the next course of action.

"Whether there will be a hearing or dropped (from the party), that is within the powers of the Disciplinary Board, under Datuk Ahmad Kasim," Saifuddin said when met after the party's central leadership council (MPP) meeting, here, today.

Saifuddin said apart from the issue concerning Zuraida, the board will also make a decision on whether to suspend the membership of Mohd Akmal Hisyam Ahmad Tamyiz who was reportedly arrested by the police along with Dengkil assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) recently.

Kedah PKR chairman Datuk Johari Abdul said the findings of a meeting with 11 state party chairpersons was that Zuraida should be sacked from the party.

"She had clearly insulted the president, insulted the party leadership and if she can't abide by party rules, she should be sacked.

"This is the stand taken by the chairpersons from the states as well as grassroots, that Zuraida be sacked regardless of her explanation. Why keep someone like this?" he said.

The complaint concerning Zuraida was received after the conclusion of the PKR congress in Melaka in December last year.

Meanwhile, earlier today, while the MPP meeting was in progress, there was chaos outside the PKR headquarters, here, involving two groups; one in support of Zuraida and the other demanding for action to be taken against her.

One group shouted "hidup Zuraida" (long live Zuraida) while the other carried banners and yelled "pecat Zuraida" (sack Zuraida).

The gathering took place for close to two hours and ended at about noon.

Police were on the scene to control the situation.
