KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia today confirmed a new case of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), bringing the tally of infections in the country to 18.

The latest case is a 31-year-old Malaysian man who works in Macau and has a history of travel to China. He had returned to Malaysia on Feb 1.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the man started to cough and feel unwell on Feb 3.

"On Feb 4 and 6, he went to the clinic and received medication. On Feb 7, he still felt unwell and was referred to Banting Hospital, and thereafter to the Sungai Buloh Hospital where he was found positive for the novel coronavirus.

"The Selangor Health Department and Kuala Langat district health office are tracing his contacts."

Dr Noor Hisham also urged the people of Banting to be calm as the ministry has taken all necessary action.
