KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) acting president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili has rubbished rumours that the party is joining forces with local-based opposition party, Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan).
Ongkili said it is not possible for PBS to join the opposition, as Barisan Nasional (BN) is still the best platform through which to serve the people.
“The BN has enough sincerity and a good track record. We are sticking with BN and we want to fight within BN to improve things so we can do more,” he told reporters at the Tawau Chinese Community social gathering dinner in Tawau, yesterday.
Ongkili then called on the people not to trust the opposition, especially those who once held positions in government, as they tend to talk only when they are no longer in power.
“Some of these (opposition) leaders have been ministers and chief ministers, but what did they do when they were in power? (Only) now are they talking about the Malaysian Agreement 1963 and illegal immigrants.
“Come on, man. Tell us what you did when you were in power. What did (Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal) do about illegal immigrants before?”
Although “BN is not perfect”, Ongkili stressed that it is still the best option for PBS, as it has been consistent in delivering on its promises and decision making.
