KANGAR: The people should be able to judge the opposition’s inability to govern as they cannot even make up their mind on who is their candidate for the prime minister should be if they win the 14th General Election (GE14).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the opposition is at its most confused state now after PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced his withdrawal as a candidate for the prime minister post should the Pakatan Harapan bloc assume power.

“So who is their prime minister candidate then? We want to know their stand on this matter,” Najib questioned during his speech to some 3,000 Perlis Umno grassroots members at Dewan 2020 here today.

Also present were his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man and Perlis Umno chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.

Najib also ticked off Umno splinter party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) for offering one of its own party members as a candidate for the prime minister post as it was against democratic principles.

“Based on the democratic principles, the party that wins the biggest seats will form the government and the prime minister will come from the party.

“In our 222-seat parliament, BN holds the majority of seats with 134, where Umno has 88 seats, so the prime minister is from Umno.

“Strangely enough, some people are nominating their own party to lead Pakatan Harapan and to be the prime minister while they only have one seat in Parliament.

“Parti Bunga (PPBM) only has one seat now, so how dare they suggest that the prime minister for Pakatan Harapan will come from the party,” he said.

Najib later announced a RM3 million allocation to repair damaged and dilapidated houses in Perlis and another RM3 million for road maintenance in the state.

Najib is scheduled to break fast, perform Maghrib prayers and launch the streets lights at Masjid Pering, Kubang Pasu later today before performing Isya’ and terawih prayers at Masjid Bukit Pinang Kota Setar.
