SHAH ALAM: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today urged voters in Sungai Kandis to cast their votes in the by-election on Aug 4.
“I understand that we just went through the 14th General Election. However, it is important for us to do our duty as responsible voters.
“I encourage each and every one of the registered voters here to go out and to vote on the Polling Day.
“There were some congestion (at polling stations) during the general election. We have discussed this with the Election Commission (EC) and they have promised to extend the voting time (to ease congestion).
“The EC has also increased the voting channels at the polling centres,” she said after a Hi-Tea session with PKR members and residents of Sungai Kandis.
There are 50,800 registered voters in the state constituency.
EC deputy chairman Tan Sri Othman Mahmood had on July 21 said polling hours will be extended by 30 minutes, which means that stations will close at 5.30pm.
Voters can check their status and voting channels by visiting the EC website at www.spr.gov.my, calling 03-88927018 or sending a text message to 15888.
The state seat was declared vacant following the death of its three-term assemblyman, Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei, who died of lymphoma cancer on July 2.
The Sungai Kandis by-election will see a three-cornered fight between PKR’s Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, Barisan Nasional’s Lokman Noor Adam and Independent Murthy Krishnasamy.
