SANDAKAN: Police report has been lodged against a number of supporters of Sandakan by-election candidate Hamzah Abdullah for using the Parti Amanah Negara logo.

The police report was made by the party’s state Youth chief Khairuddin Daud here at about 10.30am.

He claimed that he saw the group of men giving out materials while campaigning at Pasar Kim Fung here at about 8.30am.

Hamzah, who was the founder of Sabah Amanah, is among three independent candidates contesting in the by-election.

In a press conference, Khairuddin said Hamzah had resigned as the party’s chairman last year and Sabah Amanah has a new chairman now.

Prior to nomination day last Saturday, Hamzah had texted Amanah Secretary-General Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir, stating that he had left the party and would contest as independent in the by-election.

“We regret he’s using Amanah members, whom we have no idea who they are, to wear shirts with the party logo and distribute (Hamzah’s) leaflets.

“We see this as a provocation by the independent candidate, not only to Amanah but also to the DAP candidate,” he said.

Sabah Amanah has expressed their intention to support DAP in the by-election.
