KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan (PH) must not ignore the Muafakat Nasional movement following its defeat in the recent Tanjung Piai parliamentary by-election, says Sabah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Sabah Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the Umno-PAS collaboration appeared to have had a big impact on the by-election result, which saw Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng of Barisan Nasional (BN) defeating Bersatu candidate Karmaine Sardini with a large vote-majority.

He said PH leadership, especially Bersatu, must study to find out what caused their shocking defeat.

"There must be things which the people are not satisfied with the PH administration today, not only at the Johor state-level, but also at the Federal-level, including, probably issues pertaining to the 14th General Election (GE14) promises which have yet to be fulfilled.

"At the same time, PH cannot take lightly the collaboration between the opposition parties through the Muafakat Nasional involving Pas and Umno. The collaboration seems to have an impact on the Tanjung Piai by-election result," he said in a statement.

The Sulaman assemblyman, however said PH candidate's defeat in Tanjung Piai does not have an impact on the development of Bersatu and its strength in Sabah.

This is because the political issues in Sabah are different and not the same as that in Peninsular Malaysia, he added.

"Sabah Bersatu will continue to work hard to get closer to the people and serve the people in the state.

"Sabah Bersatu will continue to expand and get stronger in the state through the participation and support from indigenous people, including the younger generation," he stressed.
