PRAI: There is no need for a police investigation into the video clip showing pupils singing Negaraku in Mandarin, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
Instead, a reminder would suffice, he added.
Lim said DAP’s stand on the matter was clear, the national anthem should only be sung in Bahasa Melayu.
“The pupils had done nothing wrong.
“They were only singing from a text book published in 2014 and distributed to schools the following year by the Education Ministry.
“So, there is no need for any police investigation into the matter, whether the singing of the national anthem in Mandarin, Arabic or other languages, except Bahasa Melayu,” he said at the DAP Convention here today.
Several police reports had been lodged about the video clip, lasting one minute and 23 seconds, that shows schoolchildren singing the national anthem in Mandarin.
It was allegedly recorded on Sept 26, last year, at a SJK (C) in Seremban, Negri Sembilan.
Police have since lodged an investigation into the matter.
