KUALA LUMPUR: Interim Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has returned to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) as its chairman.
The matter was confirmed by Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahya in a statement.
“During a meeting on Feb 25, Bersatu Supreme Council unanimously rejected Dr Mahathir’s resignation as chairman. I conveyed the decision to Dr Mahathir for his consideration. After a discussion today, and after Dr Mahathir reconsidered, he agreed to return as Bersatu chairman effective immediately,” he said.
On Monday, apart from relinquishing his prime ministerial post, Dr Mahathir also stepped down as Bersatu chairman.
