(Showbiz) Puteri Balqis nominated again at Asian TV Awards, this time for Best Supporting Actress

KUALA LUMPUR: She first found fame at seven, playing a television character who was her namesake, and earned Best Actress at the Asian TV Awards 2014.

Puteri Balqis Azizi, who starred in Erma Fatima's drama Balqis, is back in the awards next month - and once again she is competing for Best Actress.

"I couldn't believe it! It's such an honour to be nominated a second time, at first I thought (Datin Paduka) Umie Aida would have been chosen," said Balqis in an interview with Harian Metro.

The 10-year-old was nominated for director Ghaz Abu Bakar's telemovie Ana Anak Ibu, screened on Astro Citra last May, in which she played Ana, a cancer-stricken nine-year-old.

While in hospital, Ana befriends another terminally-ill girl, Zai, and learns to "fight" her disease by thinking positively and encouraging her parents (Umie and Khir Rahman) to do the same.

In the awards which will be held in Singapore on Dec 1, Puteri Balqis is up against Chen Shu Fang, Zhu Zhi-Ying, Yang Kuei-Mei and Yu Zi-Yu of Taiwan, and Aleeyah Nabilah and Krissy Jesudason of Singapore.

"It's tough competition - win or lose, it's a proud moment for me to be in the running, and a milestone in my career," said Puteri Balqis, who was up against actresses from Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan in 2014.
