PUTRAJAYA: DAP's choice for prime minister has always been PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Announcing this today, DAP national organisational secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook said this had previously been agreed upon by the party.
"As far as DAP is concerned, Anwar is our choice for prime minister, even though we know that he is ineligible unless he receives pardon and contests and wins a by-election," he told reporters today.
Loke was commenting on reports that Pakatan Harapan had formally proposed Parti Pribumi Malaysia Bersatu (PPBM) chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its PM candidate should the Opposition win the 14th General Election.
Reports had also suggested that Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail would be his deputy.
The decision was the first confirmation that Dr Mahathir is on course to contest in the next general election.
Loke was met after handing over DAP’s annual statement to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) at its headquarters here today.
He said the report was part of the documents required by RoS after the party's special congress held its central executive committee (CEC) elections on Nov 12.
"This is the last document to be handed over to RoS, comprising the party's 2016 financial statement, two copies of the special congress's minutes and name list of the elected CEC members," he added.
He said he hoped the RoS would be satisfied and legalise DAP’s status as a valid party.
Loke also shot down calls by several DAP leaders who had urged RoS to investigate party's CEC election.
Among the claims were that DAP purposely did not use ballot papers with serial numbers in the CEC elections.
"How can we use serial numbers in the ballot papers? Wouldn't that mean the election is not transparent because you trace the voters? Isn't voting is confidential?
"Our auditors have kept track on the number of ballot papers printed, issued and returned after the election," he added.
