KUALA LUMPUR: Umno is engaged in transformational and democratic politics – a form of governing which has never been practised in the country's history.

Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that since helming Umno and Barisan Nasional on March 26, 2009; and later becoming Prime Minister on April 3, 2009, various transformational strategies under the National Transformation Policy have been officially put forward since 2010.

He said that seven amendments were made to the Umno constitution during the 2009 general assembly to expand the election process for the party's top posts to 150,000 party members, which has ensured that Umno continues to be dynamic, inclusive and relevant.

"This is unlike DAP, which, over the last 50 years has been controlled by an adviser and a family dynasty.

"So where is the democracy that they talk about? Obviously, it can only be seen in (the party's) name. And we saw how DAP’s central executive committee re-election only drew 54 per cent of (eligible delegates).

"This does not include the story of the Parti Bunga (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, PPBM) or what people in the old days called Kembang Sepatu, which is led by former Umno leaders and a former statesman.

“As the youngsters say, if you cannot manage your (own annual general) meeting, how can you manage the country?" said Najib in his presidential address at the Umno general assembly here today.

Najib reminded the leadership of PPBM not to point fingers at others, including the government, if they are unable to resolve internal problems before the 14th general election (GE14).

He lambasted PPBM and its leaders such as Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, whose values are vague.

"He says that he is fighting for the Malays and Islam but (he) is in a pact and is being made a tool by the DAP, which is clearly anti-Malay and anti-Islam," Najib added.
