GEMAS: A 12-year-old boy on a fishing excursion with his friends slipped and fell into Sungai Gemencheh here today and drowned.
Muhammad Amjad Ashraf Nor Aza had just arrived at the river, near Kampung Bangkahulu, to fish when the incident occurred at 4pm.
"It is learnt that the five friends had just reached the location when the victim suddenly slipped and fell into the river. His friends screamed for help (which was heard by a) villager, who then made an emergency call to the department,” Gemas Fire and Rescue Department chief Syed Ammar Syed Abbas said.
Nine firemen from the Gemas Fire and Rescue station were deployed to the scene to conduct the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation.
"The river is about 5 metres deep and the current was strong.
“The victim's body was found about 100 metres from (where he fell into the river).
"The body was sent to the Gemas Clinic’s Emergency Unit here," Syed Ammar added.
