KUALA LUMPUR: Sentiment and respect towards Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should cease, as he is now willing to work with political enemies to topple Umno.
Kedah delegate Datuk Saiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin, from Umno Merbok division, said Umno members must erase all sentiments that they still have for Dr Mahathir.
“Enough with all the nostalgia. There is no point in being nostalgic, if it will only bring harm to the party.
“I am sorry to say this, but no individual is bigger than party,” he said while debating the policy speech by party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said previously Kedah had always been associated with Dr Mahathir.
“Everywhere you go, people will say that “Mahathir sentiment” had made it difficult for Kedah Umno.
“I am not being apologetic at all. Yes, at first we faced some difficulties, but now, no more.”
He said under the administration of new Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, more focus was given on issues and hopes of the people.
“Umno leaders who went to the ground to meet the people of Kedah must had heard that they did not see any contribution and seriousness shown by the previous menteri besar (Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir).
“The only thing that they could see (during that time) was that the former menteri besar liked to take selfie and not what vision that he had for the people.”
Saiful also called for Umno members to counter the attacks of opposition by revealing their “dirty stories”.
“Before this, we were always on the receiving end. But now is not the time to continue being defensive.
“If they can attack our president day and night, left and right, we must also do the same,” he said.
He said Umno Kedah will work hard to defend the state from falling into the opposition hands.
“The 14th General Election is dubbed as mother of all election, therefore all the members must get together.
“Half-hearted kind of support towards party has no place anymore.
“In politics, loyalty or ‘wala’ is number one. We will never compromise that.”
