SANDAKAN: International movie star Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has expressed her intention to come back to the Land Below The Wind to highlight the work done by the Sabah Wildlife Rescue unit.

“I was so delighted to see so many changes here in Sabah in terms of Wildlife conservation after nearly 10 years of volunteering, while shooting the documentary titled ‘Among Great Apes with Michelle Yeoh’ here in Sepilok,” she said.

“Sabah Wildlife Department’s Wildlife Rescue Unit and the gravely important work they do in rescuing and passionately taking care of Sabah’s endangered wildlife is an awe-inspiring experience that Malaysia should be proud of,” said the Malaysia-born actress of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in a statement.

Yeoh had visited the district recently and among others visited the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre and the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sepilok. She was accompanied by Wildlife Rescue Unit acting manager Dr Diana Ramirez.

She adds that the establishment of the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre here in Sepilok is also a new conservation initiative that needs to be applauded and supported.

Yeoh said the centre gives chance for captive sun bears to be rehabilitated and released back into the wilds of Borneo.

At the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre the entourage witnessed the second phase of orangutan rehabilitation process at the Outdoor Nursery Complex.

The entourage was also briefed on the Wildlife Rescue Unit and their roles in assisting Sabah Wildlife Department in wildlife conservation in the state, the current human-elephant conflict situation in Sabah.
