KUALA LUMPUR: After three months of being dropped, three core sports were re-instated into the Malaysia Games today.

The Malaysia Games Council decided that sepak takraw, taekwondo and weightlifting events will be held at the Games to be hosted by Perak this year.

In a Games meeting today, chaired by Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the sports were re-instated even though the National Sports Council (NSC) had dropped them from the Malaysia Games three months ago.

However the NSC, in a Games meeting held on Dec 18 which was also chaired by Khairy, dropped the three sports for the first time since 2007.

The decision was made after a fact finding mission revealed that the performances of the three sports had dropped drastically over the years.

With the inclusions, the Parak Games will now have 19 core sports and 10 more disciplines selected by the hosts with a total of 369 events being contested.
