PETALING JAYA: Former Dap vice chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim said he had received information that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was set to lead an opposition delegation to meet American political leaders.
He claimed the delegation, scheduled to leave for the United States on Feb 20, aimed to seek foreign help in toppling prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and seeking support in the event the opposition pact formed the government after the14th General Election.
Tunku Aziz said Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, was also listed to be part of the delegation.
“I hope the information is not true but they have met ambassadors from the European Union (EU) before this.
“I am told their mission to the United States to meet leaders there is to brief them about the political situation in Malaysia. This is sad and disappointing,” he said at a press conference today.
Tunku Aziz said foreign powers should not meddle in the affairs of a sovereign country like Malaysia and Dr Mahathir’s action would only tarnish the country’s image.
He added that the meeting could also lead to foreign powers taking advantage and exploit the situation in Malaysia.
“Inviting foreigners to meddle in our affairs is dangerous and totally irresponsible,” he said, adding that in his 22-years of power Dr Mahathir had constantly used the Internal security Act (ISA) to act against those who sought foreign help.
