ROMPIN: Pahang Forestry Department has seized 33 lorries, allegedly used for illegal logging activities in the district during a special joint operation dubbed 'Ops Limau', here, today.

The five-hour long enforcement action also uncovered encroachment cases in the Kechau Forest Reserve in Lipis and Iban Forest Reserve near here.

Its director Datuk Mohd Hizamri Mohd Yasin said the Road Transport Department and police were also involved in the operation.

He said apart from cooperation under the National Blue Ocean Strategy, the success of the operation was also attributed to road blocks being conducted at several well-known "hot" routes to cut off the movement of the lorries.

"On top of focusing on the main roads in the state, we also conducted roadblocks in several state and federal roads near the Pahang border," he said at the 'Ops Limau' closing ceremony at JPJ Palong's enforcement station, here today.

Also present was state Forestry Department deputy director (operation) Mohd Rahim Ramli.

"Last year, the agency has detected 44 cases of encroachment into forest reserve areas, government-owned forests and privately-owned forest lands.

"During the same period, we have collected RM1.7 million in fines and compounds from offenders." he said.
