BUKIT KAYU HITAM: Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) today foiled an attempt by a smuggler to bring in 23kg of bird’s nest into the country.

Its state commander Abdul Latif Abdul Rahman said the seizure was made after the team stopped an express bus, at random, at KM1.3 of the Bukit Kayu Hitam-Changlun expressway about 1pm.

Abdul Latif said the bird's nest, wrapped in a black plastic bag, was found hidden near the battery compartment of the bus.

“Initial checks showed the bird’s nest originated from Thailand and without a permit.

“The bus driver, 28, has been detained for further questioning," he said.

Abdul Latif said the market price for the bird’s nest is estimated to be RM5,000 per kg.
