FERRARI will release its latest Ferrari 488 Pista, powered by its most powerful V8 engine to date, at the Geneva Motor show this year.

Compared to the previous V8 engine special models such as the 360 ??Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale, the 488 Pista features various innovations in terms of sporty dynamics as well as racing specification technology.

The engine used is an evolutionary continuation of the same engine that won the Best International Engine Award in 2016 and 2017.

The 3.9-litre V8 twin turbo engine produces 709hp at 8,000rpm and maximum torque of 770Nm at 3,000rpm.

The improvement was due to Ferrari adapting solutions from the 488 Challenge, such as the Inconel exhaust manifold, crankshaft and lightweight flywheel and titanium con rod.

In fact, Ferrari says the dry weight of the 488 Pista is 1,280kg, which is 90kg lighter than the 488 GTB.

With the more powerful V8 engine, the new model is able to achieve a maximum speed of 340kph and accelerates from 0 to 100kph in just 2.85 seconds, which is 0.15 seconds faster than 488 GTB.

Additionally, Ferrari racing features help to produce maximum aerodynamic performance on the road. Among the racing solutions implemented are the front S-Ducts from F1 and front diffuser designs.

Ferrari says the dynamics of the vehicle are designed to improve driving comfort while offering performance to the driver. The objective is to ensure that the performance of the machinery is at a level that is easy to reach and control.

The Italian carmaker said this was achieved by synergies between the development of the mechanical set-up and the electronic dynamic controls integrated into version six of the Side-Slip Angle Control (SSC) system.

SSC 6.0 incorporates all the following systems: E-Diff3, F1-Trac, the magnetorheological suspension (SCM) and, for the first time, the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (FDE).

The FDE features a world-first: it uses Ferrari software to adjust the brake pressure at the callipers. This additional level of control further fine-tunes the 488 Pista’s performance through, and powering out of, corners, making the car’s handling even more effortless, intuitive and predictable.

The extra confidence the system gives means that drivers can more easily control yaw angles, even on the limit, and develop a completely symbiotic relationship with the car resulting in the perfect combination of genuinely extreme performance and driving thrills.

The suspension set-up is completed by new tyres developed specifically for the car by Michelin.

Additionally, the back spoiler is much higher and slightly longer than the 488 GTB.

Parts made of carbon fibre include engine cover and bumpers. A 20-inch carbon fibre wheel option is also offered.
