PUTRAJAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) will work hard to win two-thirds majority in the 14th General Election (GE14) so that it can secure a stronger mandate and continue to provide the best services to the people.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he did not want BN to win with a simple majority as what had occurred in GE12 and GE13.
"Any government in the world needs to win two-third majority.
"We need to work hard and be smart so that we can win the two-thirds majority, although we are facing challenges from the opposition parties," he told reporters at a press conference after attending the Home Ministry's monthly assembly and Excellence Award ceremony.
On another matter, Zahid said the government was always committed to defending and fighting for the rights of civil servants to further boost public service in the country.
He said the government would never allow any party to reduce the number of civil servants for whatever reasons.
"We know that there is a demand to add the number of civil servants but the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Public Service Department director-general have to adhere to the previous policy that indicates that there is no need to add more civil servants.
"But if there is any attempt by any party to reduce the number of civil servants for whatever reason, we will not accept that.
"When the civil servants are burdened by workload, we will make some adjustment or upgrade the designation. That’s why we use re-assignment or re-deployment of positions to tackle this issue," he added.
Zahid also presented awards to 356 recipients of the ministry and its agencies.
