Call for action against DAP trio for accusing Dewan Rakyat SpeakerMarch 8, 2018 @ 6:26PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Action should be taken against three DAP members of parliament (MPs) who were disrespectful to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Samad said.
He said this after Nga Kor Ming (Taiping), Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (Beruas) dan V Sivakumar (Batu Gajah) alleged that Pandikar Amin should not be an accomplice to cover up corruption scandals.
The Opposition MPs made the allegation after the speaker rejected motions and questions related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Shahrir said the MPs had made wild allegations that were highly presumptuous.
He noted that not all motions on 1MDB were rejected while citing that in a press conference on July 27 last year Pandikar Amin had informed the media that 19 questions on the subject were allowed to be debated during the session in question.
“When such wild allegations are made against the speaker and his discretionary powers we think that this is overboard and needs to be acted on,” he said in a press statement at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Shahrir said the three DAP leaders should learn from the suspension of Batu Gajah Member of Parliament Fong Po Kuan for six months in 2001 for insulting and refusing to apologise to Tun Mohamed Zahir Ismail, who was speaker at the time.
Fong had apparently accused the speaker of abusing power when rejecting a motion on the Certificate in Legal Practice(CLP).
Asked if the trio had to be referred to the parliamentary privileges committee Shahrir however said that it would be up to the government and the parliament.
